Information security companies warned about a dangerous new ransomware virus created to attack various Brain–Computer Interface (BCI) systems. It’s called not very originally Oblivion and was first reported a week ago.
The malicious code manages to penetrate through such neural interfaces directly into the users’ memory. After that, it encrypts part of their memories and offers to restore them for a small ransom. The number of victims is already four-digit and rapidly increasing, report the company Global Security Risks.
Several antivirus giants have already published protection solutions against the new threat, and BCI system providers advise their clients to download their latest updates.
This is another significant attack in the field of mind hacking – an increasingly alarming and rapidly developing area of cybersecurity. Market analysts expect that by 2080, global losses from this type of attacks will exceed the psychological threshold of $1 trillion.
